Impro Group Workshop session 23/10/2003 - CMI
In this session we split into 2 groups of around 5 people and did some rhythmic exercises (no strings allowed). We ended the session with one of the highlights of the course: an improvisation based around a recent event in the news. In this case, the following story: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/3190516.stm

"[Los sonidos son los mismos, pero el momento del terror, que acuñó sus grandes protofenómenos, ha sido reprimido. Quizá se haya tornado el terror en la realidad tan aplastante que apenas sea posible soportar su imagen sin velos, constatar el envejecimiento de la Nueva Música no significa desconocer esta imagen o tildarla de casual. Pero el arte que obedece inconscientemente a esta represión y se hace a sí mismo un juego, porque se ha tornado demasiado débil como para ser algo serio, ren...

Images-Emotions - CMI Impro Group
This was recorded at the end of a session. We usually finish off by having one long improvisation, but we divided this one up into sections, and agreed what images and emotions that section should evoke. In order, here they are: Anger - raging bull, Paisley Wallpaper - Background, intricate, boring, Telephone - distraction, irritation, surprise, panic, fear, expectation, Velvet Scarf - Passion, soft, smooth, Flickering Lights - ghostly, eerie, trance-like, nervousness.

VZL - JRX [zero109a] - VZL
VZL was a one-off live studio collaboration between v., Zan Hoffman and Lampshade. Instead of releasing one mix of the recording, it was decided that each participant would do their own mix, creating 4 separate interpretations. Only the first 2 mixes were ever completed. This is the second version, a radical deconstruction of the material by Jeff Surak (v.). The instruments were bass guitar, drums, home instruments, type writer, toaster, and sampler.

Pink Stainless Tail - Blood at the GB [leda012] - Pink Stainless Tail
At last, this sought-after PS[T] "curiosity" is available to the public! We wanted to play "Blood Sugar Dropping" but Harry broke a string. I would've rather been at home watching the Saturday Night Cult Movie on SBS, and I said as much. Twenty bucks in the rider for four of us; never again...
Through Different Eyes - Edge Effect
This is what Edge Effect is about - try to see the world through different eyes. This piece is created with Spiral Synth Modular being played via midi with the "D Beam Controller" on the Roland EG-101. This track was recorded in one take with no overdubbing.

Mongha - Box Redrunk-Der Apparat - frec 013 - mongha
All the stuff for this CD was recorded in a live session at Agenciare on 7-12-02. In this second album on Fronha, Mongha brings you 13 intrumental tracks, in a much more experimental vein than their previous work "Picnic Synthia". Minimal distorted grooves with lots of analog and virtual synth noises.

Pontificating into a Microphone - CMI Impro Group
A microphone is in the middle of the room. Performers surround it on a variety of electric and acoustic instruments as well as poetry and texts for the vocal side of things. At any time, a performer can come to the centre of the room and like a gameshow presenter can either conduct or be in the spotlight, or just marvel at the freeform spectacle.

VZL - ZRX [zero136a] - VZL
VZL was a one off live in the studio collaboration between V., Zanstones and Lampshade. Each person was supposed to create their own mix of the session, resulting in four different interpretations. Only two were completed. This is the Zanstones mix, which is pretty close to a linear interpretation-the jam as it happened. Compare it with the JRX version which is a radical deconstruction of the material.
Red Soda - SPACECRAFT [BB005] - Red Soda

hns.dly - Mouthscapes #1 [NTT028] - Hans De Ley
A bit closer to home (Belgium), Hans De Ley creates some very unusual abstract soundscapes, using only his voice and a seemingly limitless arsenal of DSP algorithms. The result is more than just a monotone array of singing chimpansees, and proves that the voice's range can outperform many a synth. The immense spectrum of sounds accessed through this method clearly offers a lot of possiblities, which Hans puts to use without ever repeating himself...

V. - stYe [zero122v] - V.
Claustrophobic free music interspersed with densely textured electronic compositions. Hurdy gurdy, homemades, bass, guitar, drums + electronics. Recorded from 2001-2002, this material formed the basis for the collaboration material given to the Ultra Milkmaids for the tracks they created for Drone+Unease. Released on Public Eyesore. The v. album that most people just can't grasp. Tracklist*: verify lunacy you're errors before hjungle waxing stupor you're debris endure beasts rescure urgent...
